JULIA MELO
COSTUME DESIGNER

ABOUT

ABOUT JULIA MELO
I graduated from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro in Costume and Set Design, and began working with visual arts while still in college. Through set design, I gained experience in various areas such as carnival, theater, shows, and advertising. In one of these jobs, I also had the opportunity to explore the costume department and fell head over heels in love with the craft of Costume Design. Since then, I have been actively working in the field for over 20 years, with different national and international teams helping to compose scenes, build characters, and create images and shows through costumes.
I have a costume collection, the Botões Acervo, which I consider an essential tool for my production and creation process, as it contains pieces that were great finds in the composition of symbols of a period and style. I am currently a member of the FIAR union - Figurinistas e Associados do Rio de Janeiro, and together with them I always seek to reflect on the evolution and demands of the costume designer profession.
I see every project as a new challenge and I always find that I love what I do.
